NewPower Energy Systems is a venture by a group of professionals with vast entreprenuerial experience. At NewPower Energy Systems we constantly seek out innovative means of harnessing clean and renewable energy in a sustainable, efficient and cost effective manner. NewPower Energy Systems partners bring a rich variety of experience to the table in areas as varied as Finance, Telecommunication, Information Technology, Pharma as well as Nuclear Physics. NewPower Energy Systems team principals have extensive industry experience and the technical team consists of IIT Alumnus with rich experience in PV as well as Concentrated PV technologies. With partners based in the US, UK and India, NewPower Energy Systems has a global reach and enjoys access to the best minds.
Although all Business has to be run with profit as its primary objective, we at NewPower Energy Systems believe that the pursuit of profit and making a positive value addition to the society at large does not have to come at the cost of each other. We firmly believe that in order to sustain continouos growth we needs access to a low cost and widely available fuel. And what better than Solar. We has some of the best sun drenched lands and the high population density means proximity of markets negating the need of long transmission lines from source.
However for too long Solar has been a story of unkept promises. Companies promise the sky, talk of replacing coal and petroleum and keep making share issues without offering ready and viable products. PV and thin film PV has been steadily dropping in costs but they still need state support to be viable. Solar Thermal projects like parabolic troughs and Power Towers require projects in the range of tens of MWs to be financially viable and offer very little modularity and scalability. Companies claim that they will become viable with scale but while ramping up large scale operations they suffer from credit crunches, technology obsoletion and fold midway.
We at NewPower Energy Systems have chosen Concentrated PV as our primary foray in this area. We also have a parallel effort in Stirling engines. The idea is to come up with a modular and scalable solution that is viable with out state support and does not necessitate a project size of tens of Megawatts in order to be viable. Our design philosophy is
• Not to get involved in any pure science research at this stage. Only use commercially proven technology and components
• Yet solution should represent a significant amount of "Applied" innovation so that we have a significant cost advantage/value addition in our design
• The solution should represent the fastest way to get in the market right now. Even if it means that it is not the most efficient solution that we think of
• Not to try to build an one size fits all solution at this stage. Try and customize the solution to the environment. This may mean that our utility and retail products may be significantly different. The thought process is to target a specific type of implementation and make it work by keeping the costs as low as possible.
We dont claim to solve all the energy problems of the world, nor can we bring about world peace. We do not claim to possess a magic wand that will mean boundless and free energy for all.
But we do claim that we are engaged in building a solution that represents significant promise for lower costs and efficiency.
